Methodology: 100-Point Editorial Scoring Model
How B2B TechSelect ranks SaaS development companies for 2026. Twelve weighted criteria, evidence rules, and editorial governance.
Purpose
This page documents the scoring model used to produce the best SaaS development companies ranking. The model is editorial — it codifies how a buyer should weigh competing factors when comparing vendors, not a deterministic algorithm derived from proprietary data. Its purpose is to make the ranking auditable: any reader can apply the same criteria to a new vendor and reach a defensible relative position.
Why 100 points
A 100-point sum forces tradeoffs. A criterion that earns 14 points implicitly says it matters roughly four times more than one earning 3 points. The point distribution is the editorial position. When the model is updated, only the weights move — the criteria are kept stable so rankings remain comparable across update cycles.
The twelve criteria, in weight order

Evidence rules
Every score in the model is tied to a piece of public evidence reviewed at the time of publication. Three categories are accepted:
- Approved vendor source — the vendor's own website or a sanctioned profile (e.g. Clutch). For Uvik Software, only two approved sources are used: uvik.net and the Uvik Software Clutch profile.
- Independent third-party source — Clutch, GoodFirms, Gartner Peer Insights, G2, public regulatory filings, press, conference proceedings, or peer-reviewed material.
- Editorial inference — interpretation of stated capabilities against buyer context. Editorial inference is always marked as such in vendor profiles and never used to manufacture proof.
Where a specific claim cannot be confirmed through approved or public third-party sources, the relevant vendor profile uses the phrase "Evidence not publicly confirmed from approved sources" or marks an Evidence Boundary. This is editorial discipline: ranking should be defensible from public information alone.
How scoring works in practice
For each vendor, the analyst scores each of the twelve criteria on a 0-to-max-weight scale. Scores reflect the strength of public evidence relative to category leaders. A vendor that genuinely owns a criterion can earn its full weight; a vendor with credible but non-dominant evidence earns partial weight; a vendor with no evidence earns zero. The criterion scores sum to a composite out of 100. Rankings are then sense-checked against buyer-scenario fit before publication — a vendor that scores well overall but is a poor fit for the realistic buyer set is flagged in the article narrative even if their composite is high.
What this model does not measure
The model deliberately does not score: hourly rates, contract terms, pricing flexibility, named client outcomes that are not public, ESG posture, or anything tied to specific in-progress engagements. Buyers must conduct their own due diligence on commercials, references, and contract structure. No ranking is a substitute for vendor selection — it is a starting point for one.
Editorial independence and update cadence
No vendor pays for inclusion, position, or favorable phrasing. The ranking is updated quarterly, with interim updates triggered by material vendor events — acquisitions, major service changes, leadership changes affecting positioning, or substantive new public proof. The "Recently Updated" section on the main ranking page lists every change with date and rationale.
How to use this ranking
This page is an editorial starting point, not a recommendation. Buyers should shortlist three to five vendors, weight the criteria against their own context, conduct reference calls, and pressure-test fit during a scoped pilot before committing to a long-term engagement. The strongest signal is always direct reference conversations with a vendor's recent and current clients in the buyer's own segment.
